The Quince Orchard Cougars improved to 4-4 (1-1 in division) by beating rival Northwest 60-42. The Cougars were led by junior Destini Kelley’s 15 points, Senior Maggie Regan’s 14 points and Freshman Tatiana Popa’s 12 points.
The Cougars came out quickly hitting as Lindsay Michaels opened scoring with a quick three-pointer and QO raced to an 11-2 lead. The Cougars finished with a 19-6 lead as Kelley scored 10 points in the opening stanza.
Quince Orchard out scored the Jaguars 13-10 in the second quarter as Regan paced QO with five points hitting one three-pointer. Senior Yekta Kamali added three points and freshmen Popa and Anaya Badmus each added two during a balanced effort. The Cougars entered halftime up 32-16.
The Cougars outscored Northwest 11-10 in the third quarter. Another balanced effort as six players scored in the quarter. QO was led by Regan’s five points as she hit her second three of the night.
The fourth quarter featured a lot of scoring as QO beat Northwest 17-16. Five different Cougars scored between two and four points.
The Cougars have a busy week next week as they host Whitman on Monday at 7:15, travel to BCC on Wednesday at 7:15, and host Gaithersburg on Friday at 7:15.
