Quince Orchard’s varsity wrestlers took on the Colonels from Magruder High School on Tuesday night winning 9 of the 14 bouts to earn a 48-25 win over the host team. Sophomore Rico Cornejo, wrestling up two weight classes at 132 lbs start off an 8 match winning streak for the Cougars with a 7-2 decision. Freshman Michael Monkevich rallied from a four point deficit to tie and eventually pin his 138 lb Magruder opponent. Senior co-captain Alejandro Lopez earned his team leading 23rd win of the season by cradling his opponent from his feet to his back which resulted in a quick first period pin. Seniors Nick Shen and Quinten Nguyen each added six more team points to the Cougars’ total with second period pins recorded at 2:48 and 2:49, respectively. Sophomore Marquez Cooper finished off Magruder’s 170 lber in the first period for the Cougars 5th pin in a row. After Sophomore Konstantine Kahadze picked up a forfeit at 182 lbs, Sophomore Ryan Jones ran the Cougars lead up to 45-0 with a pin a the half way point of the second period. In perhaps the most exciting match of the evening, Freshman 106 lber Jason Lebowitz rallied with a third period reversal followed by three near fall points to earn a comeback 9-7 victory.
Next on the schedule for the Cougar grapplers will be on the road at Einstein High School in Kensington this Saturday where they will face off against the Titans at 1pm.
